2016 MotoGPTM World Championship:

After a seven-year absence from motorcycle racing’s premier series, Michelin returned to the MotoGP World Championship which saw Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) seal his third crown with three rounds remaining. Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) and Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) were second and third respectively.

Michelin’s MotoGP now stands at 378 victories and 27 titles.

2016 Dakar:

MICHELIN took its 33rd win on two wheels as Toby Price (KTM-Michelin) picked up his first victory on the famous cross-country rally at only his second attempt. Slovakia’s Stefan Svitko made it a one-two finish for KTM, while the all-Michelin podium was rounded out by Chile’s Pablo Quintanilla (Husqvarna 450 Rally).

On four wheels, Peugeot and Michelin returned to their winning ways, 26 years after Ari Vatanen’s Dakar success in 1987. Stéphane Peterhansel notched up his 12th win on the event, his sixth in the cars category with co-driver Jean-Paul Cottret. Nasser Al-Attiyah (Mini ALL4 Racing) and Giniel de Villiers (Toyota Hilux) were second and third to make it three different makes on the podium. Michelin runners monopolised the top 10 places.

2016 Le Mans 24 Hours:

MICHELIN took its Le Mans record to 19 straight victories and 25 in all. The 2016 race was won by Romain Dumas/Neel Jani/Marc Lieb in the N°2 Porsche which earned the German make’s 18th success on the French classic.The N°6 Toyota TS050 Hybrid/Michelin (Sarrazin/Conway/Kobayashi) and the N°8 Audi R18 e-tron quattro/Michelin (Di Grassi/Duval/Jarvis) were second and third.

2016 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC):

Endurance racing’s world title went to Porsche for the second year running as Michelin claimed its fifth crown since the WEC’s creation. The Drivers’ spoils went to Romain Dumas, Neel Jani and Marc Lieb (N°2 Porsche).

2016 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC):

Michelin added a 24th Drivers’ title to its record in the FIA World Rally Championship. Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia were the champions for the fourth year running in their Polo R WRC.

Volkswagen clocked up Michelin’s 26th Manufacturers’ crown to take Michelin’s total number of WRC titles won since 1973 to 50.

2016 Nürburgring 24 Hours:

Maro Engel, Adam Christodoulou, Manuel Metzger and Bernd Schneider (AMG-Team Black Falcon) won the 2016 German classic by a margin of just 5.697s over the similar Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Christian Hohenadel, Christian Vietoris, Renger Van der Zande and Marco Seefried (AMG-Team HTP Motorsport). Third place on the all-Michelin podium went to Alzen/Arnold/Götz/Seyffarth (Mercedes-AMG GT3/Haribo Racing Team-AMG).

 

2016 FIM Supermoto World Championship:

Michelin and Thomas Chareyre (TM) were the 2016 Supermoto world champions.

2016 FIM Enduro World Championship (EWC):

Matthew Phillips (Sherco-Michelin) claimed the first world title in the new EnduroGT class. The Australian also came first in the E2 series.

 

2016 FIM Spanish Road Racing Championship (CEV):

A seventh straight title for Michelin in the Superbike class with Carmelo Morales (Yamaha).

 

2016 FIM Trial World Championship:

For the 10th year running, Toni Bou (Montesa/Michelin) won both the Outdoor and Indoor crowns.

Livia Lancelot (Kawasaki/Michelin) won the World Ladies Motocross Championship for the second time.
