Yamaha Viltaïs Experiences wins FIM Endurance World Cup

Yamaha Viltaïs Experiences took first place at the 8 Hours of Slovakia Ring to claim the 2017 FIM Endurance World Cup for the best-placed Superstock entry.

A consistent 2017 FIM Endurance World Cup campaign by Yamaha Viltaïs Experiences’ Axel Maurin, Florian Alt and Bastien Mackels has earned the French outfit its first world title thanks to victory at the competition’s final round in Slovakia.

Yamaha Viltaïs Experiences, the only permanent Superstock team to run on MICHELIN Ultimate tyres, a freely available range aimed at all riders, clinched the trophy by a single point.

Having raced on Michelin rubber since 2013, the N°333 Yamaha reaped the benefit of its experience and hard, methodical work of recent years to provide a superb illustration of how motorsport can work hand-in-hand with social integration, since the programme is aimed at facilitating the inclusion of youngsters in difficulty.

“I would like to underline the exceptional performance put in by Yamaha Viltaïs Experiences,” said Michelin Motorsport Director Pascal Couasnon. “Since the beginning of our association with them in 2013, Yannick Lucot and his team have been total professionals, climbing higher up the ladder every year. A big ‘bravo’ to them all. Their achievement is especially remarkable in that its N°333 Yamaha is the only bike to race on MICHELIN Ultimate tyres – which are designed for amateurs and professionals alike – against some stiff opposition on what we term ‘confidential’ tyres. We are delighted to have been at their side all the way to the top step of the podium!”

The contract’s extension until 2023 was announced today at this weekend’s MICHELIN® Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix in the presence of Michelin Motorsport Director Pascal Couasnon and Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports.

Sweden revenge for ice-cool Neuville

After cruelly missing out on last year’s Rally Sweden win, Thierry Neuville (Hyundai i20 Coupé WRC/Michelin) bounced back this week to win the 66th running of the winter classic, ahead of Craig Breen (Citroën C3 WRC/Michelin) and team-mate Andreas Mikkelsen. World champion Sébastien Ogier (Ford Fiesta RS WRC/Michelin) was penalised by his running order and could manage no better than 10th at the flag.
